Thanks to all my helpers - controller Anne and vetter Robbie; Sheila, Laura, Gloria, Lynda at registration; Bill M. on instruction; and Eric on the SI system. Thanks too to the Nakkertok club for the use of their facilities.
I think the chance of poor weather might have scared away some novice participants - or maybe it was the length of the courses. The scramble worked to get everyone off in different directions but about 10 arrived back at the same time so there was a long line of racers heading off to the first control of the first loop. I don't think I will use that format next year. I will continue to map the good woods in detail so that next year's race will be more like the regular B meet format.
Kevin Jones, the long course winner, is a Nakkertok ski coach so he knows the trail system very well but you should also know that he was on the national orienteering squad for many years. So, congratulations to all those other competitors for the close race.
It would be great to have more Nakkertok members participate at our events. However, Kevin had a successful (but wet!) Halloween-O on Saturday at Kingsmere with the Nakkertok junior teams and about 20 younger Nakkertokkers ran the novice course on Sunday afternoon. Maybe some re-scheduling next year can bring the groups together for a combined event.
