Meech Valley B Event Meet Director's Notes (June 28th)

Well it was a nice hot Sunday. During my set-up the bugs didn’t seem that bad and the heat and warm wind kept me optimistic that the mosquitoes and deer flys wouldn’t drive my competitors crazy. I was wrong. Once they entered the woods, the deer flys welcomed them and that was the major complaint.
I had a very difficult time building my Novice Course, but no kids got lost in the grass, all made it over the Meech Creek rock jump stream crossing and all enjoyed the challenging and very picturesque course.
The courses weren’t runners courses, the lone trail was very small and very rocky and the grass very long and lots of woods. The SA and LA course were very similar. There were 3 controls at the start that were on major features on an area of the map that wasn’t thoroughly plotted. More like Adventure Racing maps and control locations (just the way I like it). It required precise compass work and probably the trust that you just have to keep going.....it’s a little further. Most found them and continued on with the more normal control locations on a nicer part of the course around Spring Lake and then down into the Valley.
There was a good turnout for a summer B event. All in all a good day. People were looking forward to rest and a shower to ease all those bug bites.
