Weekly Running Program
Normally our running group meets almost every week of the year on Wednesday evenings at 6pm and on many Sunday mornings throughout the winter. Due to COVID-19 the program had been suspended and is now restarting for a limited number of Fall dates (see side bar) Participation in this 'program' is free and open to all members but limited to 15 participants per session. You are welcome to come out as often as you would like.
If you are interested you must be a club member to participate. As with the Sunday meets you must login as a member and complete a waiver. This waiver applies to members only for all club events so once you have completed the waiver you are set for all club activities for the season. Then you must send an email to Francis (click on link in the description below) to be added to the mailing list for session information pertaining to the Fall season (emails are sent out each Monday prior to the Wednesday session. For each session you attend you must:
- Login as a member and then register for the session via the running training registration tab under member information.
- Print out, bring with you and sign a declaration of health for each session (dated for the session date) to join the group and participate. The declaration of health can be found on the COVID Modifications page (#3 of the MUSTs) (page en français)
Wednesday Evening Workouts
Although the main focus of these sessions is running fitness (we do training such as intervals, hill sprints, and running technique) there are often simple orienteering elements incorporated into the workouts. Many of the sessions are done with a map in hand, or involve some other exercise forcing you to think orienteering while running. The training is led by Francis Kawam who is a certified track running coach and sets exercises for all levels. Affectionately called RALF (Running à la Francis) by participants, workouts almost always include a unique orienteering twist designed by coach Francis and are always a lot of fun.
Wherever the group starts from, they often leave to other venues by 6:15. Please make every effort to arrive on time. Everyone is welcome!
In addition to Wednesday workouts the same group often meets at a different location on Sunday mornings throughout the winter for an hour to an hour and half long run. These sessions vary from week to week and due to the inevitable orienteering component are a fun way to get some extra distance in to your workout routine.
