Adult Programs Overview
Orienteering Ottawa offers a variety of programs to adults of all experience levels with orienteering.
We have our Learn-to program for those new to orienteering and our Thursday Orienteering Training for those at the intermediate and advanced levels.
We also offer drop in running training to all club members on Wednesday nights year round.
Learn-to: Basics and Beyond
Basics and Beyond is our program for adults with little or no orienteering experience. Over the course of 7 weeks participants will learn the foundational navigation skills of orienteering - basic map reading skills, understanding a standard orienteering legend, keeping your map oriented using terrain features and your compass, and route choice and navigation systems. The following week they will be invited to practice those skills in a fun club event.
The program is run in conjunction with our youth programs so it is great for parents with kids in those programs who want to learn what their children are learning about in the Youth Learn-to Program.
Thursday Navigation Training
On Thursday evenings in the Spring and the Fall we offer 8 weeks of specific navigation training for those at an intermediate or higher level. Each of these training sessions takes place in a different location and will focus on a different set of skills.
The group splits up into intermediate and advanced levels with experienced coaches teaching each group each week.
Drop in Running Training
Our running group meets almost every week of the year on Wednesday evenings at 6pm and on many Sunday mornings throughout the winter. Participation in this 'program' is free and open to all members - you are welcome to come out every week or just drop in as time permits. The program is designed to offer a progression for those that come out regularly but many come out every once in a while and still get a lot out of it. Workouts almost always include a unique orienteering twist, and are always a lot of fun.
