Calabogie, Ontario, presents a quintessential Canadian Shield landscape, with serene lakes and marshes framed by rolling hills. The terrain is mainly covered by deciduous forest of maple and oak with a mix of white pine, hemlock, and cedar in places. In some areas there are clusters of small clearings covered in mossy bare rock. There are plenty of boulders and cliffs, and lots of climb (it is a ski hill after all). Intricate rock formations and complex contour detail makes it a great place for a middle distance course. The long distance race will test an orienteer’s stamina with route choices in hilly terrain with few trails. Fear not, though, the forest is runnable with good footing. The high-quality map was developed in 2023/24 by Jeff Teutsch at Navigation Sports.

The arena for the middle and long distance races will be located at the base of the Calabogie Peaks ski hill beside the main lodge and the parking area.

The Sprint race will be held in central Carleton Place on a brand new map developed by Stefan BergströmCarleton Place is an old village located on the banks of the Mississippi River (Ontario's own Mississippi River!) beyond the western edge of Ottawa. In recent decades it has become a fast growing bedroom community connected to Ottawa by a busy 4-lane highway. Carleton Place is a 55 minute (70km) drive from Calabogie and roughly 40 minutes from central Ottawa.

Fun Juniors Mini-Camp

We've got some extra activities planned for the juniors this weekend!  Sit back and relax after a tiring course in the woods while the kids hang out with other orienteering juniors on-site!

From 3-9 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, we'll have a mix of organized and lightly structured activities for juniors (ages 10-20).  (If your junior requires close supervision, you'll need to stick around.)  We'll fire up a simple BBQ on Saturday and order Pizza for Sunday.  We've booked an indoor space at the Calabogie ski lodge - perfect for games or as a hangout spot if it rains or the bugs crash the party. Activities include a Vampire-O around the base of the ski hill Saturday evening, plus a variety of fun orienteering-themed indoor and outdoor games.  Non orienteering fun may include a campfire, swimming in the hotel pool, volleyball, or whatever games the kids dream up!

Several families will be camping on-site, but feel free to grab a hotel room or stay off-site as well.

Cost (includes dinner)

Junior 14 and under: $10 per day

Junior 15+: $12 per day

Parent (dinner only): $10 per day
