Intro to Orienteering

Our Introduction to Orienteering workshop offers you the chance to get a good start on your orienteering adventures. It is offered on a weekday evening at the beginning of each spring or fall series, either in April or September. We will try to offer it in French upon request.

These 60 minute sessions will explain what orienteering is all about and provide enough information for you to prepare yourself and comfortably complete your first event. It will include explanations of the colours and symbols on the orienteering map, instructions on using the map and a "map walk". The map walk is led by the coach and will help relate what you see on the map to the terrain around you. Compasses are not required.

Dress in comfortable clothes for walking or running depending on the weather and hiking shoes or boots that can handle water or mud (although we try to avoid puddles).  Adults, youths, families are welcome.  There is no charge.

Our workshops for 2026 will be held :

  • April 7: Kanata Rec Centre
  • April 8: Cairine Wilson High School, Orleans

Advanced registration is required to ensure we have sufficient maps and instructors.     Register here by April 6
