I'm pleased to announce that Ottawa O-Fest, Ottawa's annual orienteering festival, returns this year as the Ontario Championships, with Sprint, Middle and Long Distance A-level (aka Canada Cup) events over the May long weekend, 17-19 May, 2025. The Middle and Long Distance events will be held Sat-Sun at Calabogie Peaks Resort (venue for last years' NAOC middle and long distance events) on the excellent Calabogie map developed in 2023/24 by Jeff Teutsch at Navigation Sports. Phil Turcanu and Eric Kemp are working hard to develop great courses for both days on the world-class Calabogie terrain.
On holiday Monday O-Fest moves to Carleton Place for some fast-paced Sprint orienteering on a brand new map developed by Stefan Bergström. Stefan is leveraging his half-century of experience to develop fun sprint courses for us in Carleton Place. For each event, Ontario championship medals will be awarded to the top 3 eligible finishers in each age class under 35 years of age. For the master's age classes (35 and up), a gold medal goes to the top eligible finisher in each age class. Further information on the weekend is available on the 2025 Ottawa O-fest & Ontario Champs website here.
Everyone is welcome to participate and recreational (open) classes are available for those who are not interested in competing against their peers in an age class or would like to choose their own course. As usual, advance registration is required for this year's O-Fest. You can register today through Zone4 here. Registration fees will increase on May 1 and registrations close at noon on May 10. Whether you choose to enter one event or all three, I look forward to seeing many of you out in the woods at the 2025 Ottawa O-Fest & Ontario Champs!
If you are interested in volunteering at O-Fest, send a quick e-mail to "Andrew dot Cornett @ OttawaOC dot ca" There are opportunities for both experienced and inexperienced volunteers.
